An analysis is made of the participation of women in the media in the province of Los Ríos, highlighting their opportunities, challenges and also the evolution of their role in the media. Although there is great progress regarding gender equity, there are still structural barriers such as stereotyped representation, lack of access to management positions and also harassment in the work environment. The approach used in this research is the mixed approach because the study collects data through interviews and also observation sheets from local media. The results show an increase in the presence of women in the media, where they have managed to lead independent initiatives. Nevertheless, the gender gap is still very strong in traditional media such as television and the written press, and it is highlighted that female empowerment in communication is a key aspect to transform narratives and influence social perception of the role of women.es_ES
