dc.description | This document presents the benefits of the main legumes as soil cover, in the cultivation of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq). The plant cover of the soil, in this type of crop, improves the retention of soil moisture, helping to increase organic matter, which promotes adequate seed germination and crop development, in order to improve its yield. In conclusion, it was possible to determine that plant covers minimize the effect of erosion, maintain soil fertility, increase the cation exchange capacity and reduce the incidence of weeds in this crop; the incorporation of organic matter in the soil increases with the use of legumes as vegetable cover in oil palm, due to the fact that they influence the fixation of atmospheric nitrogen; the competitive ability of legumes such as P. phaseoloides with the weed complex, improve soil moisture conditions and the best coverage method is planting legumes between crop rows, because it is one of the methods that are friendly to the environment because they contribute to conserving soil fertility and improving its physical conditions, reducing the use of synthetic fertilizers, environmental pollution problems and production costs. | es_ES |

| es_ES |
