dc.description | Rice cultivation (Oryza sativa L.) plays a fundamental role in Ecuador's economy and food security, being one of the main sources of income for rice producers in the country. However, its production faces significant challenges due to phytosanitary factors such as grain discoloration, a disease that affects both the quality and yield of the crop. This study aimed to determine the incidence and severity caused by grain discoloration in rice cultivars in the Babahoyo canton and to select the cultivars with the lowest disease index (DI) for grain discoloration. The study used 81 rice cultivars, which were evaluated for incidence, severity, and disease index of grain discoloration. For the analysis of the variables, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s test (p > 0.05) were applied. A Euclidean analysis was also performed to determine the similarity in response to grain discoloration among the cultivars. To select the individuals with the least reaction, the IRRI (1996) scale was used, which allowed classification into reaction groups: Resistant–Tolerant, Moderately Tolerant, and Susceptible. | es_ES |

dc.description.abstract | El cultivo de arroz (Oryza sativa L.) desempeña un papel fundamental en la economía y seguridad alimentaria del Ecuador, siendo una de las principales fuentes de ingresos para productores arroceros del país. Sin embargo, su producción enfrenta desafíos significativos debido a factores fitosanitarios como el manchado de grano, una enfermedad que afecta la calidad y el rendimiento del cultivo. Este estudio consistió en determinar la incidencia y severidad causada por el manchado de grano en cultivares de arroz en el cantón Babahoyo y, seleccionar los cultivares de menor índice de enfermedad (IE) del manchado de grano. En el estudio se utilizaron 81 cultivares de arroz, los cuales fueron sometidos las evaluaciones de incidencia, severidad e índice de la enfermedad del manchado de granos. Para el análisis de las variables en este estudio, se aplicó el análisis de varianza (ANOVA) y la prueba de Tukey (p > 0,05). Igualmente se realizó un análisis Euclídeo para determinar la similitud de reacción al manchado de grano que poseen los cultivares. Para seleccionar los individuos de menor reacción se utilizó la escala del IRRI (1996) que permitió se clasifiquen en grupos de reacción.
