Bioactive seaweed extracts are of utmost importance because they contain substances with biostimulant action such as polysaccharides, phenols, amino acids, phytohormones, vitamins and minerals that serve for the good growth and development of plants. These bioactive compounds provide an improvement in the soil microbiota and protection against biotic and abiotic factors, in addition to being presented as more ecological and organic alternatives. This review aimed to define the potential of bioactive seaweed extracts as biostimulants of growth and protection in plants. Taking into account that in this work updated bibliographic information and reliable sources were used since it is a research work. The bioactive compounds contained in seaweed provide very important nutrients, and therefore play a fundamental role in plant physiology during the growth period, promoting root growth, plant elongation and protecting them from biotic and abiotic factors, taking into consideration that for these bioactive extracts to be of quality, extraction methods must be used to separate these bioactive extracts and purify them, indicating that every day these new technologies are advancing to improve the efficiency of these bioactive compounds. It is concluded that these bioactive compounds from seaweed are having a very surprising demand for use within the agricultural sector because they are presented as organic alternatives, and in order to have these bioactive compounds, the extraction methods that exist must be taken into consideration to acquire bioactive compounds of great purity and quality, considering the advantages and disadvantages over the existing extraction methods for the selection of the most suitable for a more specific result.es_ES
