Tilapia is one of the most farmed fish in the world. According to FAO estimates, global production of Oreochromis niloticus is more than 3.5 million tons annually. The objective was to describe the production and marketing of red tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) in the Province of Los Ríos. The conclusions determine that red tilapia was introduced into Ecuador in 1965 in the area of Santo Domingo de Los Colorados, as an artisanal crop and not for economic purposes; In the country, the most cultivated species are: gray tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and the red tilapia hybrid (Oreochromis sp.). The production of Tilapia in Ecuador has a commercial scope of utmost importance, it adapts to different environmental conditions, desired in the national and international market for its high nutritional content (protein 18 % - 20,8 %), by the year 2030, it will be The region is expected to see a 24 % growth in fisheries and aquaculture production, rising from almost 13 million to 16 million tonnes per year. To sustain the current per capita consumption of red tilapia, by 2030 aquaculture will have to produce 28,8 million tons more per year than currently, in the province of Los Ríos, in terms of the production of this activity we can say that only 40 % of fish farmers do it because they have acquired knowledge for its management, while another 40 % do it because of family tradition, leaving 20 % who are doing it to try a new productivity option. As far as profitability is concerned, 100 % of the producers in the Province of Los Ríos sell them at a value of $1.50 to $1.60 per pound, while the merchant sells them at $1.75 and $1.85 per pound, all of which coincide. that there is a good profit due to sales volume and due to the correct management of production and marketing is carried out directly between the producing companies and the sales supermarkets for the consumption of red tilapia.es_ES
