One of the most economically and socially important crops in Ecuador is rice (Oryza sativa L.), which is grown mostly (93.94%) in the provinces of Guayas and Los Ríos, thus creating an important source of employment and livelihood for thousands of households. This research was carried out in order to determine the amount in kg necessary to establish a rice seedbed (Oryza sp.) in new cultivars in the Babahoyo canton, province of Los Ríos, in order to leave as a precedent the quantities required for the seedlings of the new varieties; and at the same time determine the impact of seed density on the quality of seedlings produced. Given that the promising lines of rice to be used are earlier compared to the commercial controls that have already determined their densities, this was considered as a basis. The results concluded that the variables plant height, number of leaves and stem diameter were higher in the first 15 days of the seedbed. Until 25 days into the experiment, no tillers were observed. The 5 cultivars subjected to the 6 densities in the 5 ages studied presented a value of 1 on the CIAT scale, which represents very vigorous plants. Regarding the determination of Kg/Ha in cultivars, the promising lines were in a range of 21 and 24 Kg/Ha, while the commercial variety SFL-11 reached a value of 48 Kg/Ha. It is recommended that the values achieved by the cultivars in Kg/Ha probably need to be adjusted by conducting a field trial with the determined values, since it seems that the recommended amounts currently used are higher than those calculated.es_ES
