The proposal is aimed at proposing a methodological strategy that encourages promoting reading habits while becoming a tool to promote improvements in the teaching-learning process. It starts from the application of theoretical research methods as a way to determine good practices and influential variables in the study. A diagnosis of the situation presented by first grade students is made, through empirical methods and the application of Ricardo Olea's Reading and Writing test (used to analyze reading) accompanied by an evaluation referring to the results in the teaching-learning process, both on a scale from 1 to 4. Values of 1.9 and 2.15 are obtained respectively; as well as the existence of a correlation by the Pearson test between the reading skills and the academic performance of the students of this group, which confirms the low results in the teaching-learning process and the need to intervene to transform this reality. A methodological strategy is proposed aimed at promoting reading and overcoming the deficiencies determined in the diagnosis with the necessary influence on learning. The proposal is evaluated according to the recommendation index by experienced teachers and school managers and a value of 75 is obtained, which represents an excellent result.es_ES
