dc.description | Var. cerasiforme is of special significance, because it is estimated as the ancestor of tomato cultivars that currently exist, this is distributed from South America in territories – such as Peru, Ecuador, Chile and Galapagos Islands and continues throughout Central America to Mexico, the species has been able to settle in zones with climatic conditions similar to those of its origin, which involves that the species had to change its physiological requirements and morphological properties in response to the novel conditions of the environment. Cultivation in Europe arrived from Mexico, although only during the 20th century. Cherry tomato is one of the horticultural species that is most generated in hydroponics, thanks to its high beneficial potential, its national and global demand, as well as its high economic cost.
The tomato is a shrubby and annual perennial plant, prostrate, semi-erect or erect, limited restricted growth in certain varieties and unlimited in indeterminate varieties The tomato is the most important vegetable in the world, constituting 30% of horticultural production, with around 2.9 million hectares sown and 72,744,000 tons of fruits harvested, The most promising wild forms of the genus to provide transferable characteristics are S. By 2012 the world’s tomato area reached 4.8 million hectares planted. | es_ES |

| es_ES |
