Ecuador is a multicultural and diverse country; in addition, its flora and fauna is very extensive which makes it attract the attention of both its own inhabitants and people from other parts of the world. In the canton of San Miguel in the province of Bolivar, in the community of Choupiaco there is the Copa Lillo Waterfall, a natural area that has attracted the attention of many people, however, its tourist development is not being noticed, for this reason this case study was chosen. Its objective was to analyze the factors that prevent the tourist development of the Copa Lillo Waterfalls, valuing its potential as a tourist resource. As a methodology, a type of descriptive, exploratory and field research was applied in order to obtain the appropriate information for the case. As a technique, the observation card, the interview and the survey were applied to a total of 107 people, as well as local inhabitants and potential tourists. As a result, tourists come to the area for recreation, however, there are several points that impede tourism development in the area, such as inadequate infrastructure, lack of basic services and tourism offerings. Furthermore, they consider that the authorities should include this resource in the planning and later in the budget in order to be able to intervene. It is concluded that it is important that the relevant authorities show more commitment in encouraging tourism in the canton, that they are involved in promoting tourism development, and improving some aspects of the space or rebuilding it. On the other hand, it is important to create lines of credit so that investors can increase the tourist offer.es_ES
