dc.descriptionIn Ecuador, rice is the basic element for most Ecuadorians, it represents 6.6% of importance in relation to total food expenditure. It is one of the representative crops for the income of the farmers; Furthermore, its production constitutes a source of employment for many families in the areas of influence of this crop. Indicators are used to estimate agricultural sustainability, which are variables to summarize and simplify information of a complex nature in a useful way. In this research, the use of indicators of environmental sustainability for rice cultivation (Oryza sativa L.) is detailed, reaching the conclusion that CEDEGE producers and other small rice growers have problems in terms of plant cover management, diversification of crops and problems with pests and diseases. According to the research carried out, rice production is the most important activity in this sector, but it is not the only one, but rather it is complemented with agricultural production mainly for self-consumption. After having carried out the research on rice production in the Babahoyo canton, it can be said that rice production is largely generated by small producerses_ES

dc.description.abstractEn Ecuador, el arroz es el elemento básico para la mayoría de los ecuatorianos, representa el 6,6 % de importancia en relación al gasto total de alimentos. Es uno de los cultivos representativos para los ingresos de los campesinos; además, su producción constituye una fuente de empleo para muchas familias de las áreas de influencia de este cultivo. Para estimar la sostenibilidad agraria se utilizan indicadores, que son variables para resumir y simplificar información de naturaleza compleja de una manera útil. En la presente investigación se detalla el uso de Indicadores de la sustentabilidad ambiental para cultivo de arroz (Oryza sativa L.), llegando a la conclusión que los productores de CEDEGE y otros pequeños arroceros poseen problemas en cuanto a manejo de cobertura vegetal, diversificación de cultivos y problemas con plagas y enfermedades. Según la investigación realizada la producción de arroz es la actividad más importante de este sector, pero no es la única, sino que se complementa con producción agropecuaria mayormente para el autoconsumo. Después de haber ejecutado la investigación sobre la producción de arroz en el cantón Babahoyo, se puede afirmar que la producción de arroz es generada en gran medida por pequeños productoreses_ES
