dc.descriptionAlcohol is an addictive psychoactive substance that causes many mental illnesses and health problems such as heart disease. The effects of alcohol consumption are due to biological, genetic, social and cultural problems. On the biological side, it affects the brain, the hippocampus, a small organ located precisely in the brain and associated with memory, while, on the social side, the serious problems of social, work and family coexistence produce an increase in traffic accidents and the occurrence of workplace violence and physical and psychological aggression. As for the consumption of this substance, men and women experience it differently. Emotions are psychological processes that provide us with a valuable service by enabling us to cope with, understand and regulate important emotions in our lives. There are two types of primary and secondary emotions that allow us humans to relate to what is happening around us, influence our external actions, but also guide our behavior to activate survival mechanisms and ensure mental and physical well-being. Therefore, alcohol consumption in the elderly specifically can worsen existing conditions such as depression or can cause heart, liver and neurodegenerative diseases, memory loss, mood disorders, emotional and cognitive problems, anxiety.es_ES
