dc.description | This document dealt with the importance of Biotechnology, specifically transgenic plants as a tactic in the development of sustainable agriculture. With the production of transgenic plants, it is estimated that the yields per unit area of the crops will increase, in parallel with this, fewer pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, fungicides) will be used, which will allow the development of sustainable agriculture without the indiscriminate use of these products. The proposed objectives were to establish the situation of transgenics in Ecuador and indicate the advantages and disadvantages of transgenics. The conclusions raised determine that due to the great economic importance of crops and the variety of existing cultivars worldwide, several biotechnological strategies have been developed with the purpose of genetic improvement to increase production, confer resistance and improve the quality of the themselves, which will be available in greater quantity for commercialization and human consumption; with transgenic plants the postharvest quality is improved due to the resistance of the plants to the attack of pathogens without carrying out cultural practices that deteriorate the environment, being efficiently sustainable; Ecuador is considered a country free of transgenic crops and seeds; So far it has not been diagnosed that the cultivation of transgenic plants are harmful to humans and the environment and there is controversy in several countries, where environmental organizations point out that transgenic cultivars increase the use of toxins in agriculture, pollution of the soil, resistance to pests and diseases which is not proven. | es_ES |

| es_ES |
