Social skills are interpersonal behaviors that facilitate effective interaction between people. These skills are fundamental for academic and professional development, since they allow better communication, empathy, and conflict management. This research explores the correlation between social skills and academic performance in third year high school students of the Galo Plaza Lasso School. The general objective is to identify how social skills affect students' academic performance. A non-experimental correlational research design was used with a mixed methodological approach, combining quantitative and qualitative techniques, and using the IADA psychometric test as the main tool. The sample consisted of 80 students selected by stratified random sampling. The results revealed a strong positive correlation between social skills and academic performance, showing that students with more developed social skills tend to have better academic results. This confirms the initial hypothesis that proposed a directly proportional relationship between these variables, with a Pearson coefficient of 0.867. The conclusions suggest that the development of social skills is crucial to improve academic performance and recommend the integration of social skills development programs in the school curriculum.es_ES
