Cognitive processes are the means through which human beings acquire knowledge. Through this it is possible to process the information that reaches the senses, decoding it so that it has meaning. They are very important because they contribute to human beings' ability to reason and solve problems logically. The objective of this research is to determine the importance of cognitive processes in the learning of sixth and seventh year students at the Gonzalo Zaldumbide school in the Vinces canton. To develop the project, 3 types of research were used: descriptive, documentary and field. The approach is mixed with a non-experimental design and the methods used are: bibliographic, deductive, inductive, descriptive, analysis-synthesis and psychometric. The population considered in this research consisted of all sixth and seventh year students at the Gonzalo Zaldumbide school in the Vinces canton, which amounts to 80 people. The sample is made up of 37 girls and 43 boys between the ages of 9 and 11 years old. For the compilation, psychometric tests were used as techniques that helped evaluate the cognitive processes and learning variables. To evaluate the independent variable, the following tests were applied: D/92, Token and Toulouse; while, to analyze the dependent variable, Test Dat 5 was used, where abstract, numerical and verbal reasoning were assessed. The results of the research determined that the students do not have optimal development of their cognitive functions, due to difficulties in attention, deductive reasoning, numerical problem solving and language comprehensiones_ES
