Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a set of neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by the early onset of difficulties in social communication, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviors. Although autism has no cure, it is possible to prevent complications associated with the disorder through various physiotherapeutic methods, techniques, and approaches, which helps improve the patient's quality of life. This project focuses on evaluating and detailing the effectiveness of the physiotherapeutic intervention applied to an 8-year-old male patient diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. In addition, the research was carried out in the Multidisciplinary Physiotherapy Department of the Specialized Educational Unit "Ayúdanos a Empezar", in the city of Babahoyo. A study carried out in 2018, published in the journal "Revista Ecuatoriana de Neurología", estimated a prevalence of ASD of 1.7% in children between 2 and 12 years old in the Sierra and Costa region. According to this estimate, there could be approximately 25,000 children with ASD in Ecuador. It was concluded that a solid understanding of the theoretical foundations of autism spectrum disorder will facilitate early diagnosis and effective treatment by a multidisciplinary team.es_ES
