dc.descriptionBrucellosis in horses, commonly known as "mal de la cruz" or "mal de las cotas," is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Brucella abortus. This disease can affect both horses and other animals, including cattle, sheep, and goats. It is characterized by causing abortions in pregnant mares, as well as inflammation in the reproductive organs in both males and females. In the present study, an evaluative-descriptive approach was conducted, focusing on comparing positive cases of Brucellosis using the Rose Bengal and SAT-EDTA tests. Subsequently, the Non-Parametric Test, chi-square test, was applied. In this research, the confirmation of Brucella presence in the equine population of the southern zone of Los Rios Province was carried out. Of the total samples analyzed, it was identified that the incidence of Brucellosis in horses detected by the SAT-EDTA test is 9%, while the incidence detected by the Rose Bengal test is 5%. The incidence of Brucellosis in male horses is 4% by the Rose Bengal test and 6% by the SAT-EDTA test, while in female horses, it is 1% and 4%, respectively. The analysis of the data reveals that the incidence of Brucellosis in horses varies according to their origin and the type of test used. In the BABA region, the Rose Bengal test (RB) shows an incidence of 4%, while the SAT-EDTA test registers an incidence of 8%. In BABAHOYO, the Rose Bengal test (RB) did not detect positive cases, while the SAT-EDTA test reveals an incidence of 1%. On the other hand, in VINCES and PALENQUE, none of the tests detected positive cases. Overall, the SAT-EDTA test presents a higher incidence compared to the Rose Bengal test, with a total incidence of 9% and 5%, respectively, in the sample of 364 horses.es_ES

dc.description.abstractLa Brucelosis en equinos, comúnmente conocida como "mal de la cruz" o "mal de las cotas", es una enfermedad infecciosa causada por la bacteria Brucella abortus. Esta enfermedad puede afectar tanto a equinos como a otros animales, incluidos bovinos, ovinos y caprinos. Se caracteriza por provocar abortos en las yeguas gestantes, así como por la presencia de inflamación en los órganos reproductores tanto en machos como en hembras. En el presente trabajo se llevó a cabo un enfoque evaluativo-descriptivo, centrado en la comparación de los casos positivos a Brucelosis con la prueba Rosa de Bengala y SAT-EDTA, posteriormente, se aplicó la Prueba No Paramétrica, prueba de chi cuadrado. En la presente investigación se realizó la confirmación de la presencia de Brucella en la población equina de la zona sur de la Provincia de Los Ríos, del total de muestras analizadas, se identificó que la incidencia de Brucelosis en equinos detectada mediante la prueba SAT-EDTA es del 9%, mientras que la incidencia detectada mediante la prueba de Rosa de Bengala es del 5%. La incidencia de Brucelosis en equinos machos es del 4% mediante la prueba de Rosa de Bengala y del 6% mediante la prueba SAT-EDTA, mientras que en equinos hembras es del 1% y 4% respectivamente. El análisis del cuadro revela que la incidencia de Brucelosis en equinos varía según su procedencia y el tipo de prueba utilizada. En la región de BABA, la prueba de Rosa de Bengala (RB) muestra una incidencia del 4%, mientras que la prueba SAT-EDTA registra una incidencia del 8%. En BABAHOYO, la prueba Rosa de Bengala (RB) no detectó casos positivos, mientras que la prueba SAT-EDTA revela una incidencia del 1%. Por otro lado, en VINCES y PALENQUE, ninguna de las pruebas detectó casos positivos. A nivel general, la prueba SAT-EDTA presenta una incidencia más alta en comparación con la prueba de Rosa de Bengala, con una incidencia total del 9% y 5%, respectivamente, en la muestra de 364 equinos.es_ES
