The eye is the most important organ for the human being, especially for children in the development stage and in their school stage, since it is well known that 80% of information is received through sight and it is thus that student children can develop their learning skills and abilities in a better and effective way. Which leads us to have as objective of this project, to determine if the refractive defects affect the academic performance of the students of the Cacique Tomalá Educational Unit in the period December 2022 - April 2023. For which the deductive methodology was used where we start from the general to the particular, it is also a quantitative and qualitative investigation since an interview was carried out with the students where the observation method was used and the data collection that was later analyzed. What gave us as results that the students of the Cacique Tomalá educational unit do have refractive errors such as myopia and astigmatism, and the average and low academic performance of them have a percentage of 47% and 32% respectively? Therefore, refractive errors are concluded if they are affected by academic performance, since 32% of the total students analyzed have a low academic performance, ranging between 6 and 5 as an average grade.es_ES
