Parenting styles can influence the personality of children, stimulating the development of self-destructive habits or behaviors in adolescents. This correlational study deals with parenting styles and risk behaviors in adolescents aged 15 to 18 from the Babahoyo Educational Unit in the Babahoyo canton. Its objective is to determine the incidence that parental models maintain in the adoption of harmful behaviors in the adolescent population. To achieve the purpose of the investigation, a bibliographical consultation was carried out regarding the variables addressed, and together with this the structured survey was used, with its respective instruments, the risk behavior questionnaire for adolescents and the parental socialization scale for adolescents (ESPA29); which provided information that made it possible to test the hypothesis defined on the subject in question. The results obtained show a significant incidence of parenting styles in harmful behaviors. The outstanding risk behaviors in adolescents were drug use in 30.3% and suicide attempts in 21.2%. STIs and prophylaxis represented 6.1% of the population; 3% was occupied by violence, and the rest of the students maintain simultaneous behaviors. The predominant parenting styles were indulgent and neglectful, the former constituting 60.6% and the latter 18.2% of the adolescent sample. 12.1% reflected an authoritarian style; and 9.1% of students conceive a specialized model for each parent, distributed in indulgent-negligent.es_ES
