In Ecuador, mainly in the coastal zone, hard yellow corn is one of the most important products since its supply frames different activities in the agricultural sector, this being one of the transitory crops mostly planted by small, medium and large agricultural producers. However, among the parameters that affect crop production are the main diseases Leaf blight (Exserohilum turcicum), Asphalt spot (Phyllachora maydis), Common rust (Puccinia maydis), Ear rot (Diploidia zeae), Ear rot stem (Fusarium graminearum) and red ribbon (Spiroplasma kunkelli), whose inhibitory activity has caused loss, since their symptoms and affectation occur in the reproductive stage. In the research, the method with a qualitative approach and descriptive scope was used. Furthermore, to prepare this document, information was sought in updated texts, web pages, magazines, scientific articles, virtual libraries and all valuable bibliographic material to facilitate the development of this study. Consequently, it was established that the effects caused by phytopathogenic diseases induce a decrease in profitability, due to poor management of the crop, susceptibility to pests, the use of non-certified seeds and unfavorable climatic conditions, which generated higher production costs based on of the use and application of pesticides to counteract the pathologies that cause the effects on the quality and productivity of the crop produced mainly by causal agents of phytopathogenic diseases.es_ES
