dc.descriptionMalnutrition is one of the most common diseases in society, which affects the child population to a greater extent. In Ecuador, malnutrition is a health problem that has had great relevance and that in the first instance has affected children, considering that in recent years the rate of this health problem has decreased by barely one percentage point since the 2014 to 2018. Malnutrition in its different manifestations has important consequences that include health, the development of cognitive abilities and educational results. For this reason, the research aims to determine the relationship between chronic malnutrition and cognitive development in students from 10 to 12 years of age from the Isabela Católica Educational Unit, Babahoyo, December 2022 - May 2023. Its methodology was inductive-deductive, with quantitative modality and descriptive scope. His sample was 72 students from the educational center and his technique was based on a survey for nutritional status and a scale for measuring cognitive development. The results showed that the majority of the students had a normal weight, height and BMI, however, students were obese and others were severely thin; He also presented a medium level of cognitive development. In conclusion, it was evidenced that malnutrition or inadequate nutrition of the children of the U.E. Isabela Católica affects the cognitive development that students present in class. Due to the aforementioned, a proposal focused on the creation of a food and nutrition education program for the benefit of the children studied was raised.es_ES

dc.description.abstractLa desnutrición es una de las enfermedades más comunes en la sociedad, que afecta en mayor medida a la población infantil. En el Ecuador, la desnutrición es un problema de salud que ha tenido una gran relevancia y que en primera instancia le ha afectado a los niños, considerando que en los últimos años el índice de este problema de salud se redujo apenas un punto porcentual desde el 2014 a 2018. La malnutrición en sus distintas manifestaciones tiene consecuencias importantes que abarcan la salud, el desarrollo de las capacidades cognitivas y los resultados educativos. Por ello la investigación tiene como objetivo determinar la relación entre la desnutrición crónica y el desarrollo cognitivo en estudiantes de 10 a 12 años de edad de la Unidad Educativa Isabela Católica, Babahoyo, diciembre 2022 – mayo 2023. Su metodología fue inductiva- deductiva, con modalidad cuantitativa y de alcance descriptivo. Su muestra fue de 72 estudiantes del centro educativo y su técnica se basó en una encuesta para el estado nutricional y una escala de medición del desarrollo cognitivo. Los resultados arrojaron que los estudiantes presentan en su mayoría un peso, una talla e IMC normales, sin embargo, se evidenciaron estudiantes con obesidad y otros, delgadez severa; además presentaron un nivel de desarrollo cognitivo medio. En conclusión, se evidenció que la l desnutrición o la inadecuada alimentación de los niños de la U. E. Isabela Católica incide en el desarrollo cognitivo que presentan los estudiantes en clases. Por lo mencionado se planteó una propuesta enfocada en la creación de un programa de educación alimentaria y nutricional en beneficio de los niños estudiados.es_ES
