The present documentation details the effects of the hydrogel in the cultivation of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) in Ecuador. The hydrogel releases the water together with the available nutrients, in a sustained manner, which helps keep the soil moist, reducing the loss of nutrients and allowing the development of the microbial visa in the rhizosphere. It also promotes the absorption of nutrients in plants. The conclusions determine that the pepper is one of the most economically important vegetables worldwide and in Ecuador, it is cultivated on a small, medium and large scale, as a transitory crop that has favored the agricultural development of the country; the hydrogel stores about 103 ml of water for each gram of the product in about an hour minimum; the application of between 2 and 2.5 g/plant, with intervals of 16 days in the pepper crop, achieve the highest yields and apply hydrogels reduce soil erosion, reduce the loss of nutrients and have the ability to release them gradually, allowing that the plants have a reserve of nutrients and water, allowing irrigation frequencies to be spaced, releasing the water as the soil or substrate dries, allowing water consumption in agriculture to be reduced. It is recommended to use hydrogel in pepper cultivation to increase their yields and establish that farmers carry out field trials with hydrogel in other short-cycle crops.es_ES
