Chronic child malnutrition is a public health issue that affects millions of children worldwide. In Ecuador, it has a prevalence of 23% among children under five years old, especially in rural and indigenous areas. In this context, the objective of this study was to determine the socioeconomic risk factors that influence chronic malnutrition in children under 5 years of age in the parish of San Simón, Guaranda canton, during the period from October 2024 to May 2025. A mixed-methods approach (quantitative and qualitative), non-experimental, descriptive, and correlational design was applied. The sample consisted of 70 children previously diagnosed with chronic malnutrition. Data were collected through surveys administered to caregivers, as well as anthropometric indicators (height-for-age). Socioeconomic variables such as income level, parental education, access to basic services, food availability, and housing conditions were analyzed. The results show that socioeconomic factors—particularly low family income, limited parental education, and lack of access to clean water and diverse foods—are significantly associated with the severity of chronic malnutrition. It is concluded that improving socioeconomic conditions and strengthening nutrition education could help reduce the prevalence of this condition in the studied community.es_ES
