dc.descriptionPalliative care focuses on improving the quality of life of patients with serious or terminal illnesses, with the aim of alleviating emotional, physical, social and spiritual suffering. Objective: Determine the impact of palliative care on the quality of life of patients in the terminal stage of the IESS Babahoyo General Hospital, October 2024-May 2025. Methodology: The inductive-deductive method, quantitative modality, non-experimental design, descriptive, field and transversal type was used with 35 patients. A 12-question questionnaire validated by experts and the Karnofsky Scale were applied. Data analysis was performed using SPSS and minitab 2021. Results: The main pathologies in end-stage patients were cancer (23.7%), chronic kidney failure (23.7%) and chronic lung disease (23.7%); in the most used types of palliative care, fatigue management (28.9%), spiritual care and psychological support (26.3%) and nutritional support (15.8%); and the difficulties that limit the effectiveness of palliative care by nursing staff, emotional fatigue or stress (23.7%), patient and family culture (23.7%) and lack of specialized training (18.4%). Conclusion: Palliative care improves the quality of life in terminally ill patients.es_ES

dc.description.abstractLos cuidados paliativos se enfocan en mejorar la calidad de vida de los pacientes con enfermedades graves o terminales, con la finalidad de aliviar el sufrimiento emocional, físico, social y espiritual. Objetivo: Determinar el impacto de los cuidados paliativos en la calidad de vida de pacientes en etapa terminal del Hospital General IESS Babahoyo, octubre 2024- mayo 2025. Metodología: Se utilizó el método inductivo-deductivo, modalidad cuantitativa, diseño no experimental, tipo descriptivo, de campo y transversal con 35 pacientes. Se aplicó un cuestionario de 12 preguntas validado por expertos y la Escala de Karnofsky. El análisis de datos se realizó mediante SPSS y minitab 2021. Resultados: Las principales patologías en pacientes en etapa terminal fue cáncer (23,7%), insuficiencia renal crónica (23,7%) y enfermedad pulmonar crónica (23,7%); en los tipos de cuidados paliativos más empleados, manejo de la fatiga (28,9%), atención espiritual y apoyo psicológico (26,3%) y apoyo nutricional (15,8%); y las dificultades que limitan la eficacia de cuidados paliativos por el personal de enfermería, fatiga emocional o estrés (23,7%), cultura del paciente y familia (23,7%) y falta de formación especializada (18,4%). Conclusión: Los cuidados paliativos mejoran la calidad de vida en los pacientes de etapa terminal.es_ES
