Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic non-communicable disease that has become a health problem. In Ecuador, type 2 diabetes mellitus is the third cause of general mortality with 5.564 deaths in 2021. In addition, it continues to constantly grow as just like prediabetes and therefore the population is at risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus due to different factors. Objective: Determine the risk of developing diabetes in overweight adults at the Los Trigales Health Center, during the period from June to September 2024. Methodology of this research was applied, field, descriptive and cross-sectional. The sample was made up of 148 adults between the ages of 35 and 64. The results showed that 80.4% of the sample presented a low risk, 18.2% a moderate risk, and 1.4% a very high risk, in addition the female gender presented 50% low risk, 22.2% moderate risk, and 1.4% very high risk, according to the age group with the highest risk was 35 to 44 years of age. Conclusions: The Findrisk Test was effective in assessing the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus in overweight adults, and the female gender and the 35-44 age group had a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is recommended to implement the Findrisk Test with outpatients, focusing on patients with scores higher than 15, as well as promoting healthy eating and physical activity habits through educational activities, encouraging frequent medical evaluations, and providing an ideal nutritional assessment to improve and prevent most chronic diseases.es_ES
