The use of misoprostol to induce abortions in the first trimester of pregnancy has raised international concern due to its potential adverse effects, especially among adolescents. For this reason, a study was conducted to identify the consequences of misoprostol use in pregnant adolescents in the first trimester of pregnancy treated at the General Hospital Liborio Panchana Sotomayor. The study included a sample of 48 adolescents who had used misoprostol, employing quantitative research methods with a cross-sectional design. Data collection strategies included the use of instruments such as the Drug Side Effects Assessment Questionnaire and the Reproductive Health Impact Questionnaire for data analysis. Descriptive and analytical statistical techniques were applied to interpret the data. The prevalence of misoprostol use among adolescents treated was determined to be 8 out of 100 adolescents. Significant findings included the influence of socioeconomic and cultural factors on this issue, with limited access to medical care and low economic income as primary barriers, representing 19% and 17% respectively. Cultural factors, including limited knowledge and prevalent traditions, were identified in 44% of cases. Regarding adverse reactions, 40% of cases reported severe abdominal pain, and 23% experienced excessive bleeding, indicating significant physical risks faced by adolescents. The findings of this research underscore the urgent need for public policies promoting access to comprehensive sexual education and safe, effective contraceptive methods.es_ES
