The ametropias are frequent problem in the population this given by the anatomical states that makes the light rays do not focus properly on the retina, these are myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. Chess is a board game played by two players in which the aim is to overthrow the king. This strategy game is known to stimulate cognitive skills including the ability to visualize the board and pieces. Objective: To characterize the ametropia of the chess players of the Sport Federation of Los Rios, period July – September 2024. Methodology: A descriptive approach that allows us to obtain quantifiable data, prospective and transversal, the clinical histories are essential for the collection of data, though visual acuity and thus to characterize the ametropias. Our population was of forty-five chess players between the ages of 10-23 years old. Results: It is obtained as a result that 76% of the population presented ametropias while 24% are emmetropic, we have that the refractive defect with greater prevalence was myopia with 47% presented mostly in men with 41.18% and as accommodative dysfunctions it is presented that the excess of accommodation has greater prevalence in this group of players with 44.44%. Conclusion: This study provides valuable data to establish preventive measures in the sports field. This is for the welfare of athletes and to promote a healthier, more inclusive, and competitive environment.es_ES
