dc.description | Babesiosis has been known as a tick-borne parasitic disease that affects a variety of mammals, including dogs. This disease, caused by protozoa of the Babesia genus, could cause serious and potentially lethal symptoms in canines. Therefore, the main objective of this research was to determine the prevalence of babesiosis in dogs treated at the "Mundo Animal" veterinary clinic located in the canton of Vinces, province of Los Ríos. A retrospective analysis was carried out of the veterinary records of dogs treated at the "Mundo Animal" clinic during the period from January to December 2023. Name, age, sex, breed, and symptoms presented at the time of the consultation were considered variables. The sample was applied to a total of 30 dogs of which 14 cases of babesiosis were identified, representing a prevalence of 47%. The disease was more common in younger dogs, predominating 35% in mixed-breed canines and certain other breeds, with symptoms including fever, lethargy, anemia and loss of appetite. The identification of risk factors associated with the disease could help in the implementation of more effective prevention strategies, including tick control and educating owners about the signs and symptoms of babesiosis. It was important to continue epidemiological surveillance to monitor the prevalence of the disease where control measures were adjusted as necessary. | es_ES |

| es_ES |
