This case study focuses on an 84-year-old older adult resident of Buena Fe canton, Los Ríos province, Ecuador, to explore the psychosocial factors related to his cognitive decline. Population aging and its associated challenges, such as cognitive impairment, are a growing problem worldwide and in Ecuador. The Buena Fe canton presents particularities that may influence the health and well-being of its older residents. The study aims to analyze the psychosocial factors affecting the elderly in question and their cognitive impairment. A qualitative methodology was used including semi-structured interviews, clinical histories and cognitive tests. The study findings highlight the importance of strengthening family relationships and providing emotional and logistical support to the elderly, as the lack of a strong support network and family tensions can negatively affect their well-being. Difficulties were observed in the memory, orientation, attention and thinking of the older adult, indicating signs of cognitive impairment. The structural diagnosis of Major Neurocognitive Disorder (Dementia) reinforces the severity of the situation. In addition, low self-esteem and negative emotions were found to contribute significantly to cognitive impairment, and lack of social interaction and a strong support network increased their vulnerability and isolation.es_ES
