Introduction: Myopia is a common ocular refraction problem that affects distant vision due to the importance of enjoying visual efficiency in the educational field. This work will expose the functioning of the myopic eye, the cause, classification, diagnosis and treatment. And in the same way the academic performance to establish the relationship between the study variables. Objective: Determine the influence that myopia has on the academic performance of eighth and ninth grade students at the Rey David Educational Unit, Los Ríos, Babahoyo, June - October 2023. Methodology: Depending on the level, it is a field investigation with a quantitative approach, characterized by being descriptive, documentary or bibliographic and explanatory, since the study site is attended to collect data and is supported by the contributions of several authors. Results: 100% of the study sample has myopia, but 96% incidentally have mild or low myopia and only 4% have moderate myopia, as well as the frequent symptoms that have generated difficulties in school activities are 40%. blurred distance vision, 30%, squinting, 20% headache, 55% photophobia. Exposing the refractive problem. Conclusion: 62% of eighth and ninth grade students at the Rey David Educational Unit indicate the need to sit closer to the blackboard. It is evident that the visual problem is causing discomfort and difficulties in the classroom. According to the grade reports of the study sample, only 24% obtain the highest grade, 58% maintain a good average and only 18% reach the letter c, which is equivalent to 7. For this reason, it is essential to carry out projects such as the current one since through their development visual problems can be detected and solved, to guarantee optimal learning.es_ES
