This research was carried out at the facilities of the National Agricultural Research Institute (INIAP), Litoral Sur Experimental Station (EELS), located in the Guayas province, Yaguachi canton, Virgen de Fátima parish, at Km 26 of the Duran- Tambo road. As plant material, 29 weed populations of Echinochloa crus-galli were used, which were collected in the Yaguachi (17 populations) and Daule (12 populations) which were subjected to two study phases under controlled conditions. The first phase was exploratory (screening) with 6 repetitions and the second phase with 10 repetitions for which populations of the first phase were selected, in which the experiment was executed in the dose-response mode. As a result of the screening, 4 populations were selected for each locality (Yaguachi and Daule) that showed resistance and/or tolerance and susceptibility behavior, with which the dose-response experiment was carried out. Thus, the treatments were 40 for each zones, corresponding to 4 populations of Daule (PD2, PD6, PD7 and PD12) and 4 populations of Yaguachi (PY1, PY4, PY11 and PY13) with 10 different doses of the herbicide penoxsulam (640, 320, 160, 80, 40, 20, 10, 5, 2.5 g i.a. ha-1 and 0 which is the control), distributed in a Completely Random Design (DCA), using the Tukey test at 95% probability. As an important conclusion, it was determined that the toxicity index in the dose-response phase in the Daule zone, at 7 and 14 days, the PD6 population showed moderate damage, increasing at 21 days to strong damage, while from 7 up to 21 days, in the dose-response phase in the Yaguachi zone, the PY11 population showed greater damage. The Yaguachi zone presents E. crusgalli with tolerance and / or resistance to the herbicide penoxsulam.es_ES
