| dc.description | Acute respiratory failure is a pathology in which the respiratory system is unable to fulfill the basic function of exchanging O2 and CO2 between ambient air and circulating blood. Characterized by a PaO2 <60 mmHg, with the help of pulse oximetry plus confinement through analysis of arterial gases. The clinical picture is derived from the underlying disease, in this case COPD is therefore called acute respiratory failure. A clinical case of a 75-year-old male patient with a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for 3 years is presented, the individual comes to the health center for presenting a clinical picture of dyspnea with medium and minimal efforts, the main symptom in patients with ARI and alteration of the saturation of O2 below 90%. Thus, the objective of this case study was to identify the actions of the respiratory therapy area in a male patient with acute respiratory failure associated with COPD. Regarding the conclusion, it was evidenced that the good actions of the respiratory therapist contributed to the discharge of the patient, as well as to educate him regarding the treatment that he should continue to have. | es_ES |

| dc.description.abstract | La insuficiencia respiratoria aguda es una condición en la que el sistema respiratorio es incapaz de cumplir la función básica de intercambiar O2 y CO2 entre el aire ambiente y la sangre circulante. Caracterizada por una PaO2 <60mmHg, con ayuda de la pulsioximetría más la confirmación mediante el análisis de gases arteriales. El cuadro clínico se deriva de la enfermedad de base, en este caso de la Enfermedad Pulmonar Obstructiva Crónica (EPOC) por ende se denomina insuficiencia respiratoria aguda “por alteración de la relación ventilación/perfusión”. Se presenta un caso clínico de un paciente masculino de 75 años con antecedentes de enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica desde hace 3 años, el cual acude al centro de salud por presentar un cuadro clínico de disnea de medianos y mínimos esfuerzos síntoma principal en pacientes con insuficiencia respiratoria aguda (IRA) y alteración de saturación de O2 por debajo del 90%. De esta manera, el objetivo del presente caso de estudio fue identificar el accionar del área de terapia respiratoria en paciente masculino con insuficiencia respiratoria aguda asociada a EPOC. En cuanto a la conclusión se evidenció que el buen accionar del terapista respiratorio contribuyó al alta del paciente, así como también a educarlo en cuanto al tratamiento que deberá seguir llevando. | es_ES |
