dc.description | The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of community-acquired pneumonia in children under 6 years of age who attend Martin Icaza Hospital. The methodology used was quantitative, analytical, descriptive, observational, field and bibliographic. For data collection, the technique of direct observation and clinical history of 125 children with pneumonia was applied, which allowed to determine the prevalence of 58% children who presented pneumonia, with sociodemographic characteristics age 1 years are more susceptible to contracting pneumonia, being the male sex the predominant, 53% are exposed to indoor pollution, 19% of children attend nurseries, socioeconomic status is low, 70% belong to rural areas, frequently have discomfort when breathing, parents 59% do not frequently take their child for medical examination, 39% are exposed to dust and chemicals, 31% from hereditary respiratory infections, 23% from tobacco smoke, 12% from air pollution, while 10%, He replied that because of wood smoke. dc.description.abstract | El estudio se realizó con el propósito de determinar la prevalencia de Neumonía adquirida en la comunidad en niños menores de 6 años que acuden al Hospital Martin Icaza. La metodología utilizada fue cuantitativa, analítica, descriptiva, observacional, de campo y bibliográfica. Para la recolección de datos se procedió aplicar la técnica de la observación directa e historia clínica de 125 niños con neumonía, la cual permitió determinar la prevalencia de 58% niños que presentaron neumonía, con características sociodemográficas la edad 1 años son más susceptible a contraer neumonía siendo el sexo masculino el predominante, el 53% están expuestos a contaminación intradomiciliaria, el 19% de niños asisten a guarderías, en lo socioeconómico están el nivel económico bajo, el 70% pertenece al área rural, frecuentemente presenta molestias al respirar, los padres de familia el 59% no lleva con frecuencia a su hijo a revisión médica, el 39% se exponen al polvo y químicos, el 31% por infecciones respiratorias hereditarias, el 23% por humo de tabaco, el 12% por contaminación al aire, mientras que el 10% respondió que por humo de leña.
