dc.description.abstractLa degeneración macular es una enfermedad progresiva, que causa una degeneración en la retina, su principal síntoma es la perdida de la visión central, manifestándose con mayor frecuencia en personas mayores a los 50años. Entre las causas que pueden generar perdida de visión tenemos a la degeneración de la macula asociada a la edad más conocida como DMAE.. El proceso de envejecimiento causa muchos cambios en la estructura del ojo, el paciente objeto de estudio se presenta con una baja visión, en estas situaciones el profesional optómetra debe realizar los exámenes respectivos para identificar la causa de esta perdida de visión y proveer un tratamiento para evitar una discapacidad visual. Con el creciente envejecimiento de la población en muchos países, irá aumentando también el número de personas que corren el riesgo de padecer discapacidades visuales asociadas a la edad.es_ES
