Bacterial pneumonia is an infectious one that originates in the respiratory tract and affects the lungs. In the lungs there are small so-called alveoli, which normally fill with air, however, when they are infected they fill with pus and fluid, thus producing painful breathing and difficulty in absorbing oxygen. Bacterial pneumonia is considered the number one cause of infant mortality worldwide, according to data from the World Health Organization, until 2018 this disease caused more than half a million deaths, equivalent to 30% of deaths in under 5 years of age. The highest prevalence of bacterial pneumonia is accentuated in Africa and Asia. The main risk factors lie in air pollution with smoke from tobacco and / or fossil fuel, in addition to the infant's immune status. Taking into account the above, we present the clinical case of a 5-year-old female patient diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia, admitted to the Venus de Valdivia Type “C” Maternal and Child Health Center, where the primary objective of the nursing was to determine the preventive care that triggers the infection. In addition, a nursing care process was applied, taking into account the altered functional patterns, in order to obtain favorable results and a speedy recovery of the patient.es_ES
