dc.description | Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a serious health problem that affects the population worldwide. According to studies reviewed and validated by the World Health Organization (WHO), until 2019 more than two million deaths were reported from this disease, which are alarming figures as it is a preventable chronic disease. By 2020, it was alerted that this respiratory disease took advantage of the Covid-19 infection, both being opportunistic and more than 10 million deaths were reported by the end of the year. Likewise, the World Health Organization (WHO) established that until 2030 COPD will be considered the third cause of mortality and fourth of disability worldwide. The disease develops from various risk factors, among which the toxic habit of smoking leads, with greater complications in male patients. It presents with chronic bronchitis and pulmonary emphysema and typical symptoms of dyspnea and cough with expectoration. Next, the clinical case of an elderly adult admitted to the Basic Hospital of San Miguel and diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Disease (COPD) is detailed, where the main objective of nursing was to apply the Nursing Care Process (PAE), according to altered functional patterns, medical history, signs and symptoms. In addition, basic needs and altered functional patterns were analyzed according to Marjorie Gordon's model. | es_ES |

| es_ES |
