Pneumothorax is the escape of air found in the lung, and this air fills the space established between the outer wall of the lung and the chest wall, putting pressure on the lung, preventing its normal expansion. It can be caused by a lung injury, either from a projectile stab or a rib fracture. Or by changes in air pressure. Smokers and very tall and thin people are more prone. The main objective of the treatment is the evacuation of the air that is between the outer wall of the lung and the rib cage. Rest and oxygen therapy are measures that are applied in patients with pneumothorax, but when this is greater than 20%, a chest tube for pleural drainage is used.es_ES
