| dc.description | Pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation (NAVM) represents the most frequent hospital infection, associated with a high mortality, morbidity and cost rate. The objective of the study was to determine the incidence and prevalence of pneumonia in a 65-year-old patient associated with mechanical ventilation (NAV). The method that was used was descriptive with a quantitative approach of the hospitalized patient in the Intensive Care Unit of the IESS general hospital in the city of Babahoyo. Data were obtained from active and selective surveillance. The results obtained from the study of the patient who entered the ICU and required mechanical respiratory assistance. The incidence rate of NAVM in people over 65 years of age is very high in the country, having a hospital stay of 6 to 10 days and with significant incidence, a diagnosis of pneumonia was found in this individual hospitalized for more than 72 hours after mechanic ventilation. It is concluded that there was a high prevalence of pneumonia in the intensive care unit of the IESS General Hospital in the city of Babahoyo. | es_ES |

| dc.description.abstract | La neumonía asociada a la ventilación mecánica (NAVM) representa la infección hospitalaria más frecuente, asociándose con una elevada tasa de mortalidad, morbilidad y costos. El objetivo del estudio fue Determinar la gravedad de la neumonía asociada a la ventilación mecánica en paciente de 65 años ingresado en la unidad de cuidados intensivos del Hospital General IESS Babahoyo. El método que se utilizó fue descriptivo con enfoque cuantitativo del paciente internado en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos del hospital general IESS de la ciudad de Babahoyo. Los datos se obtuvieron de la vigilancia activa y selectiva. Los resultados obtenidos del estudio del paciente que ingresó a la UCI y requirió asistencia respiratoria mecánica. La tasa de incidencia de NAVM en personas mayores de 65 años es muy elevada en el país, teniendo una estancia hospitalaria de 6 a 10 días y con incidencia significativa, se halló diagnóstico de neumonía en este individuo hospitalizado por más de 72 horas posteriores a la ventilación mecánica. Se concluye que se presentó una alta prevalencia de neumonía en la unidad de cuidados intensivos del Hospital General IESS de la ciudad de Babahoyo. | es_ES |
