Análisis del impacto ambiental de los productos químicos utilizados en la agricultura del Ecuador
Abstract
Los agroquímicos, son sustancias químicas o mezclas de sustancias, destinadas a prevenir, destruir, controlar o interrumpir el ciclo biológico de cualquier plaga enfermedades y malezas; su uso en la agricultura data desde el siglo XX y XIX. Empero, a lo largo del tiempo se ha demostrado que el uso indiscriminado de los mismos, representa un problema ambiental con un grave impacto. En este sentido, el presente trabajo previo requisito para titulación tiene como finalidad analizar el impacto ambiental de los productos químicos utilizados en la agricultura del Ecuador, en base a revisión fuentes bibliográficas. Por su parte, los plaguicidas especialmente organofosforados, organoclorados y carbamatos (agroquímicos de mayor impacto ambiental) y fertilizantes químicos han provocado eutrofización, toxicidad de las aguas, contaminación de aguas subterráneas, contaminación del aire, degradación del suelo y de los ecosistemas, desequilibrios biológicos y reducción de la biodiversidad; dicha contaminación ambiental está dada fundamentalmente por aplicaciones directas en los cultivos agrícolas, lavado inadecuado de tanques contenedores, filtraciones en los depósitos de almacenamiento y residuos descargados y dispuestos en el suelo, derrames accidentales, el uso inadecuado de los mismos por parte de la población. Entonces, resulta necesario acoger buenas prácticas agrícolas como: (1) seleccionar el producto específico para la plaga que se va a controlar, respetando la justificación técnica tanto del profesional a cargo, como de la etiqueta; (2) el personal encargado de la manipulación y aplicación de plaguicidas, debe utilizar elementos de protección personal; (3) respetar la dosis de aplicación; (4) respetar los tiempos de reingreso al predio; (5) gestión y manejo de envases; (6) almacenamiento adecuado y (7) control de residuos.
