Corn represents one of the main crops for human consumption worldwide. In Ecuador, one of the crops that generates the most income in the agricultural sector is corn, for this reason it is extremely important to manage the plantations in an adequate way in order to obtain an optimal yield. Every year, corn producers face the challenge of overcoming several problems that arise in cultivation, among which the use of strategies to improve soil quality stands out. Meanwhile, one of them is the use of amendments that provide Calcium directly or indirectly as in agricultural gypsum (CaSO4.2H2O), which is the most widely used amendment. In this research, the use of agricultural gypsum as a soil conditioner in the intensive production of corn (Zea Mays L.) is detailed, concluding that the use of amendments such as agricultural gypsum is considered as a complement to the maintenance of fertility. of the soil and the maintenance of the necessary balances between the nutrients that present antagonistic relationships. Agricultural gypsum can be useful in the management of soils irrigated with saline waters, it can avoid an excessive accumulation of salts in the profile. This amendment, due to its effects on the soil and chemical characteristics, has good potential for the remediation of sodicity.es_ES
