This study aimed to determine the presence of demodectic mange in dogs from the Barreiro Parish of the Babahoyo canton, Los Ríos Province, Ecuador. The research was conducted using the skin scraping technique on a sample of 80 dogs from the area. The results revealed that only 4% of the evaluated dogs were positive for demodectic mange, while 96% were negative. A higher prevalence was observed in male dogs (73%) compared to females (28%). Regarding age, the most affected group was 5 to 9 years old (49%). Additionally, the majority of positive cases were found in mixed-breed dogs (94%). Chi-square tests were performed to determine the relationship between the analyzed variables (sex, age, breed, color, and diagnosis of demodectic mange). The results showed significant differences in terms of sex, age, and color, while the variables breed and diagnosis evidenced the existence of demodectic mange cases. The study highlights the importance of continuous epidemiological surveillance to identify and address dermatological problems in the local canine population at an early stage. Likewise, it is recommended to implement prevention programs, including education for owners on hygiene, regular veterinary care, and specific preventive measures for demodectic mange.es_ES
