Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) is an important commercial crop, as its leaves are highly valued. Botanically, tobacco belongs to the genus Nicotiana, one of the five major genera in the Solanaceae family, of which the two most cultivated commercial species are Nicotiana tabacum Virginia and Nicotiana tabacum Brasiliensis or Burley. The general objective of this research is to detail the quality of tobacco leaf in the Ecuadorian industry, given that the tobacco industry has a significant impact on the global market, with an annual production of approximately 40,000,000 kg and still increasing. In this bibliographic research, various sources of research materials from competent institutions have been used, such as websites, undergraduate and graduate theses, articles, scientific journals, and catalogs. The results obtained were evidenced by several factors affecting the quality of tobacco leaf, including the presence of pests and diseases, soil types, climatic conditions, and poor agricultural practices, such as inadequate plant nutrition. Finally, it is concluded through the provided information that the quality of tobacco leaf in the Ecuadorian industry is influenced by a wide range of interconnected factors. These include the composition of nicotine, nornicotine, and other alkaloids present in the tobacco leaf, agronomic management, and pest control.es_ES
