The present research work was carried out in the Gerontological Center of the city of Babahoyo, its main function is to provide care for the welfare of older adults, in this context optometric care becomes a fundamental element to preserve the quality of life and their welfare. The main objective is to identify the refractive problems presented by older adults belonging to the Babahoyo Gerontological Center. The present work is analytical and descriptive; the population under study are all the older adults who attend the Gerontological Center, consisting of 40 residents and 50 visitors. The data collection technique used was observation, optometric cards, and a satisfaction questionnaire. The data were tabulated in the statistical program IBM SPSS ver. 25. Through the implementation of an optometric evaluation it was detected that 54% present myopia combined with presbyopia. At the end of the present study it was detected that the older adults present combined visual problems since most of them had not had recent optometric checkups, the implementation of the optical aids was successful in improving the visual conditions of the beneficiaries. These findings emphasize the need for regular visual care in older adults and highlight the importance of addressing refractive errors in this vulnerable population.es_ES
