The importance of bananas worldwide lies in their mass consumption, their role in international trade, their contribution to income and jobs in producing countries, their role in food security and their nutritional and health benefits. The objective was to establish the importance of organic matter M.O. in commercial banana plantations in Ecuador. This material, which has a factual component, has been prepared by compiling all types of information through research on various websites, academic works, sources and bibliographic databases available on digital platforms. The conclusions determined that organic matter improves soil structure by increasing its capacity to retain water and nutrients. In banana plantations, where water and nutrient demands are high, this characteristic is essential to maintain a favorable environment for the growth and development of plants. It also promotes the formation of soil aggregates, promotes soil aeration and drainage, prevents compaction and improves root penetration; In banana cultivation, organic matter favors the activity of beneficial microorganisms. In addition to breaking down organic matter and releasing nutrients, soil microorganisms play an important role in preventing disease and promoting plant health. This is essential for banana production as it helps reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides and promotes economic and environmental sustainability and organic matter plays a key role in the success of commercial banana plantations in Ecuador. Its importance lies in the many important benefits it brings to soil health, crop growth and the long-term sustainability of the country's banana industry. However, there are no technical controls to establish adequate doses and establish minimum parameters for its application and thus determine its sustainability.es_ES
