dc.descriptionThe cultivation of passion fruit P. edulis in Ecuador is increasing. Its local and international demand and current prices motivate the planting of this fruit. Like all agricultural species, it attracts countless arthropods that feed on it. Several groups of insects are reported attacking it, sucking insects, defoliators among others. The most important defoliating insect for passion fruit cultivation is recorded as D. juno. This insect, by causing defoliation in the plant, causes a loss of production of close to 50%. The objective of this work is to describe the damage and determine the integrated management techniques used against the defoliating worm D. juno in the passion fruit crop. Thanks to its chewing mouthparts, it feeds on leaves, flowers, fruits, stems, and roots. Management methods reported for D. juno are natural biological control, inoculative biological control, manual control, and chemical control. This last control is the most used by the farmer without taking adverse factors into account. It is concluded that D. juno is an important pest insect in passion fruit cultivation. It is important to investigate other control methods for the passion fruit defoliator worm D. juno, which do not affect the environment and pollinators.es_ES

dc.description.abstractEl cultivo de la maracayá P. edulis en el Ecuador va en aumento. Su demanda local e internacional y precios actuales hace motivar al plantío de esta fruta. Como toda especie agrícola, atrae un sinnúmero de artrópodos que se alimentan de ella. Varios grupos de insectos son reportados atacándola, insectos chupadores, defoliadores entre otros. El insecto defoliador de mayor importancia para el cultivo de maracayá es registrado como D. juno. Este insecto al causar la defoliación en la planta causar una perdida de la producción de próxima al 50%. El objetivo de este trabajo es describir los daños y determinar las técnicas de manejo integrado usadas contra el gusano defoliador D. juno en el cultivo de maracuyá. Gracias a su aparato bucal masticador, se alimenta de las hojas, flores, frutos, tallos y raíces. Los métodos de manejo reportados para D. juno son el control biológico natural, control biológico inoculativo, control manual y el control químico. Este último control, es el más usado por el agricultor sin tener en cuenta los factores adversos. Se concluye, D. juno es un insecto plaga de importancia en el cultivo de maracuyá. Es importante investigar otros métodos de control del gusano defoliador de la maracuyá D. juno, que no afecte al ambiente y a los polinizadores.es_ES
