The present work details the effects of the use of diatomaceous earth applied in banana cultivation to control the nematode Radopholus similis. Banana is one of the most important staple foods in the economy of several countries, and production for sale in local markets is one of the few activities that provides households with a constant income throughout the year. Nematodes are generators of losses and low quality in this crop, R. similis attacks the root of the plant causing weakening effects and complexity when absorbing the necessary nutrients. Diatomaceous earth can be successfully incorporated into the integrated management of pests in crops due to its multiple benefits, in addition, these are a biogenic mineral resource, which has growing economic importance, since it has acquired the complexity of the mineral and its wide spectrum opens interesting potential for pathogen control. Due to its filamentous shape, absorption power and electrical charge, its particles adhere to nematodes, insect pests, among others, eliminating them by dehydration and not by chemical poisoning, making it a non-toxic product, harmless to humans, the environment, animals and plants.es_ES
