Artificial insemination is a first-generation reproductive biotechnology that consists of the introduction of semen into the female's genital organs without the intervention of the male, facilitating fertilization and production of an offspring. The objective of this document was to investigate the methods of artificial insemination in the porcine species. The bibliographic review was carried out in published articles, scientific journals, books and virtual libraries. Studies carried out on 20 nulliparous sows of the Duroc breed, with post-cervical insemination and according to the time of expression of estrus, the sows were served twice with variable insemination intervals (ITEI) of 8 hours (h) (8:00 a.m. – 16:00 pm) and 16 h (16:00 pm – 8:00 am) with SC from two Pietrain boars, using 10 straws of 0.5 mL each with 600 x 106 sperm; in the first, they presented a conception rate was 80% (16/20); while the number of piglets born per litter corresponded to 5.75 ± 2.33 and 4.13 ± 2.08, respectively. highlighting that most of the piglets appeared high body weight at birth, leading to difficult deliveries and increased mortality. In conclusion, it is confirmed that post-cervical artificial insemination can be applied in nulliparous sows and obtain good conception rates with the use of cryopreserved semen. However, litter size is greatly affected.es_ES
