Urinary tract infections are the most frequent complications during pregnancy and occur due to anatomical and physiological changes in pregnant women. Early diagnosis and management is of great importance to avoid possible maternal and fetal sequelae that may occur. Escherichia coli is the most frequently isolated pathogen in urinary tract infections during pregnancy. Pyelonephritis is an infection of the renal parenchyma and its prevalence increases to 6% in pregnant women who have not been screened for asymptomatic bacteriuria during pregnancy. Pyelonephritis occurs in 80-90% of cases in the 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy and in the puerperium. Sepsis is a common and fatal disease. The incidence of sepsis increases with age, the use of immunosuppressive agents, invasive procedures and the number of resistant microorganisms. The incidence of sepsis increases with age, the use of immunosuppressive agents, invasive procedures and the number of resistant microorganisms. Pregnant women are almost always young and have fewer comorbidities, with the main site of infection being the pelvis. The case of a 29-year-old female patient with a 24-week pregnancy with pyelonephritis and sepsis was presented. The purpose of this study is to determine the risk factors and identify the causes for which patients suffer pyelonephritis and with this a more serious pathology such as sepsis, thus increasing the maternal and fetal morbimortality rate.es_ES
