Pleural effusion is an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the pleural space, produced by increased production or decreased drainage. The pleura is a serous membrane that lines the walls of the thoracic cavity. Coronaviruses are groups of viruses that cause diseases ranging from the common cold to more serious pathologies such as pneumonia, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). Their transmission is through replication in the epithelial cells of the lower respiratory tract and to a lesser extent in the cells of the upper respiratory tract. This clinical case study has been elaborated through the continuous investigation of these pathologies presented by the older adult, by which the symptomatology, transmission, diagnosis and treatment were made known. With the respective evaluation by the nursing staff, the nursing diagnoses were elaborated by which the respective care was provided to the older adult for his total recovery and discharge of the patient.es_ES
