dc.descriptionProstatic hyperplasia (an enlarged prostate gland) is a recurring condition that occurs as men advance in age, an enlarged prostate causes bothersome urinary symptoms. Urinary tract infection usually occurs in any part of the urinary system such as: the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Infections occur in the lower urinary tract, which is the bladder and urethra. According to the WHO, cases of prostatic hyperplasia in Ecuador rank seventh in terms of morbidity, thus affecting 50% of men over 65 years of age. While the incidence of UTI in the elderly is 10% to 50%. A clinical case of a 90-year-old male patient of Ecuadorian nationality is presented who arrives accompanied by his youngest daughter to the Los Trigales health center in the city of Guaranda-Ecuador, with signs of frequency, dysuria, nocturia, in addition to that there is drip. Through the physician's evaluation, the diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia was reached. The patient was treated immediately after the doctor's assessment, who sent tests to rule out possible complications. After performing tests, a urinary tract infection was detected, for which he was sent the appropriate medications. Next, the presentation of the clinical case is made together with a review on the subject that is prostatic hyperplasia and urinary tract infection, addressing important points about its clinical diagnosis and treatment.es_ES

dc.description.abstractLa hiperplasia prostática (agrandamiento de la glándula prostática) es una afección recurrente que se da a medida que los hombres avanzan de edad, el agrandamiento de la próstata provoca síntomas urinarios molestos. La infección del tracto urinario suele generarse en cualquier parte del sistema urinario como: los riñones, los uréteres, la vejiga y la uretra. Las infecciones ocurren en las vías urinarias inferiores que es la vejiga y la uretra. Según la OMS los casos de hiperplasia prostática en el ecuador ocupan el séptimo lugar en cuanto a morbilidad afectando así al 50 % de los hombres mayores de 65 años. Mientras que la incidencia de ITU en el adulto mayor es de 10% a 50%. Se presenta un caso clínico de un paciente masculino de 90 años de nacionalidad ecuatoriana que llega acompañado de su hija menor al centro de salud los trigales de la ciudad de Guaranda-Ecuador, con signos de polaquiuria, disuria, nicturia, además a eso hay goteo. Mediante la valoración del médico se llegó al diagnóstico de hiperplasia prostática benigna. El paciente fue tratado inmediatamente después de la valoración del médico el mismo que se envió exámenes para descartar posibles complicaciones. Luego de realizar exámenes se detectó infección de vías urinarias, por lo cual se le envió los medicamentos adecuados. A continuación, se hace la presentación del caso clínico junto a una revisión sobre el tema tratado que es hiperplasia prostática e infección de vías urinarias tratando puntos importantes sobre su cuadro clínico diagnóstico y tratamiento.es_ES
